Depending upon the culture one examines, one will find that owls are either feared or venerated, either despised or admired, but seldom completely ignored. They have been symbols of wisdom to some, a talisman to ward off evil for others, and a harbinger of death to still others, it seems that they almost always have some mystic or spiritual meaning attached to them by people.
Perhaps it is their wide, forward facing eyes that make people feel they are looking into the face of something with supernatural wisdom or powers, perhaps it is the stern look of their brow that has caused some to associate them as an omen of impending doom, perhaps his nocturnal habits caused him to be regarding with suspicion by humans who feared what they could not see in the dark.
